Electric cars are fast, efficient, and high-tech, but for many drivers, they seem boring. The silence that was once a symbol of progress is now making the driving experience seem lifeless. That's why brands like BMW, Mercedes-AMG, Hyundai, and others are asking: What if sound could bring EVs to life?
BMW's answer is the HypersonX, a sound system for its new Neue Klasse models. It features 43 custom audio signals that change depending on the driving style. It aims to create an emotional connection, using sounds inspired by nature, art, and science. The Personal and Sport Mode focus on warmth, precision, and emotion, rather than emulating the sound of gas engines.
Other automakers are also working on similar projects. Mercedes-AMG teamed up with will.i.am to create custom acceleration, braking, and steering sounds. Dodge has a Charger Daytona EV that has an artificial roar to make the muscle car look real. It's clear that sound is becoming an important part of car identity and how drivers feel about their cars.
