A shocking incident has rocked eastern France after two newborn babies were found dead inside a freezer in the town of Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont. According to reports, a man called the police after discovering the body of a baby in his home. Upon the arrival of authorities, a second body was also discovered in the same freezer, prompting an immediate in-depth investigation.
Suspicion quickly turned to the mother of the babies, a woman in her fifties, who allegedly left home without saying goodbye. She was arrested the next day in Boulogne-Billancourt, a western suburb of Paris. Based on initial information, it is believed that she is the mother of nine children from two different relationships. A thorough examination of the evidence is ongoing to determine the true cause of the babies' deaths.
In the community of Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont itself, the windows and doors of the house involved in the case were found to have seals—a clear indication of an active investigation. Mayor Jean-Claude Tramesel expressed his deep shock, saying that their small town of about 1,500 residents had never expected to be involved in this kind of tragedy. He said the couple had lived in the area for a long time but were known as private individuals.
This incident is just one of similar cases recorded in the country in recent years. In 2022, two newborn babies were also found in a woman's freezer in southern France, with prosecutors declaring the deaths unnatural. In 2015, five bodies were discovered in similar circumstances, leading to the mother's imprisonment. Another high-profile case is that of Véronique Courjault, who was sentenced in 2009 to eight years in prison after being found guilty of murdering her three newborn children.
Currently, an official investigation is ongoing to clarify the full circumstances and determine legal action against the suspect. This tragedy has reopened discussions on mental health, family support systems, and child protection policies in France—issues that continue to be faced by various countries around the world.
