The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is explaining to a vlogger after a video went viral in which he can be seen videotaping himself while driving. According to the agency, this may be a violation of existing traffic laws, especially if it is proven that the incident involved an element of distracted driving.
In a show cause order, the owner and driver of a white Mazda sedan were ordered to appear before the Office of Intelligence and Investigation Division of the LTO. The hearing aims to clarify the details of a viral video in which the driver is seen using a video-filming device while behind the wheel. The LTO emphasizes that any use of gadgets that may distract the driver is a serious road safety issue.
The respondent is also required to submit a sworn explanation to answer the allegations of violations, including reckless driving, compulsory registration of motor vehicle, and being improper person to operate a motor vehicle. If the driver's identity is confirmed at the hearing, the driver's license will be immediately suspended for 90 days while the investigation continues.
The LTO once again reminds the public, especially content creators, that the creation of online content should not sacrifice the safety of oneself and other motorists. In the age of social media, it remains the primary responsibility of every driver to be careful, disciplined, and law-abiding in every drive.
