NASA Will Allow Smartphones on Crew-12 and Artemis

NASA is taking a historic step by allowing astronauts to use smartphones on the upcoming Crew-12 and Artemis II missions. For the first time, bulky, outdated cameras will be replaced with personal devices that are faster, more familiar, and more flexible for use in space.

This move aims to speed up the technology approval process and embrace modern consumer devices that have proven to be reliable. Instead of relying on hardware designed years ago, NASA is opening the door to a more efficient system that can deliver fresher, real-time documentation of missions.

Beyond the technical benefits, this decision has a clear human touch. With the help of smartphones, it's easier for astronauts to share more personal and authentic moments from orbit and lunar flybys. This strengthens the public's connection to Artemis II and the future of exploration, making the stories of space travel more relatable and human.
