The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has strongly denied reports that Charlie Tiu Hay Ang, better known as Atong Ang, is hiding in their country. According to the official statement, there is no record of Ang's presence in Cambodia, contrary to recent reports.
The ministry spokesperson also confirmed that Ang never entered or exited any of the country's border checkpoints. Based on a report from Cambodia's Immigration General Department, there is no data to prove that he crossed their borders.
Atong Ang is wanted by Philippine authorities in connection with a series of alleged crimes related to the disappearance of more than 100 sabungeros. The case continues to garner intense public attention due to the breadth and gravity of the allegations.
The Cambodian government stressed that the clarification was issued to counter reports that Ang was hiding there, especially after it was learned that a Philippine police team had been sent to search for him. Their side clarified that such statements are baseless.
Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government assured that the manhunt against Atong Ang will continue. According to Secretary Jonvic Remulla, all elements of the PNP are actively working, and fresh information is continuously being received. The government insisted that justice will be achieved for the more than one hundred missing sabangeros.
