There was tension at a corporate building in Bonifacio Global City, Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Saturday night, February 7, after some construction workers “held” three staff members of the Human Resource (HR) department due to delayed wages.

According to the barangay, the incident began at around 7:15 p.m. on the 29th floor of the building, where HR staff were prevented from leaving while workers protested. The barangay clarified that this cannot be considered hostage-taking, but rather a misunderstanding.

Barangay Councilor Maricris Palma explained, “It's not totally hostage because our HR and then the construction workers talked in a room about their wages.” She also mentioned that no weapons like knives were used in the incident.

Based on the statement of the HR staff, they were not aware that there would be a delay in the payment of wages of the construction workers. The talks between both parties inside the building lasted until 10 p.m. to resolve the dispute.

Ultimately, HR and the construction workers reached an agreement. The company promised that all delayed wages would be paid on Monday, February 9, although no exact time was set. According to Palma, “They settled, and by Monday we will be able to pay our construction workers.”
