A new chapter in the career of Hidilyn Diaz, the Philippines' first Olympic gold medalist, has officially begun, after she was appointed as a faculty member at the University of the Philippines Diliman. From now on, she is not just a champion on the sports stage, but a teacher who will shape the next generation.
In preparation, Diaz underwent the Teaching Effectiveness Course (TEC) conducted from January 12 to 15, a program designed to develop the teaching skills of new teachers. According to him, the training greatly helped to clarify his approach to handling classes, especially in the field of physical education.
In the upcoming second semester of Academic Year 2025–2026, Diaz will supervise two PE 2 sections in weightlifting at the College of Human Kinetics (CHK). He aims to broaden students' knowledge about weightlifting, a discipline that is increasingly recognized in national sports.
Diaz also shared his desire to educate more Filipinos to better understand the importance of weightlifting as a legitimate sports event. For him, teaching is a way to pass on the discipline, determination, and proper technique that have been the keys to his success.
Meanwhile, Diaz continues to be recognized not only in academia but also in his community. He is also set to be honored in his hometown as a symbol of inspiration and national honor, proof that his influence extends beyond the podium and is now also felt in the classroom.
