Former senator Bong Revilla Jr. was detained on Tuesday at the Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas in connection with a malversation case involving the alleged P92.8 million ghost flood control project in Bulacan. The detention is part of the process as he faces serious allegations against him in court.
Revilla was temporarily placed in the facility's male dormitory pending a decision on his motion to be transferred to the PNP custodial facility in Camp Crame. He arrived in a jail van, accompanied by his family and lawyers, and under tight security from authorities.
According to the prison authorities, Revilla was subjected to medical quarantine and risk assessment, in accordance with standard protocols for new detainees. Later, he will be placed in a cell with other government officials who are also involved in cases of anomalies in flood control projects. It was emphasized that there is no VIP treatment and he will receive the same benefits as other persons deprived of liberty.
Officials also clarified that each cell has limited capacity and adequate facilities such as bunk beds, toilets, and proper ventilation, but no air conditioning. There is also an infirmary, chapel, and recreation areas to meet the basic needs of the detainees.
Despite the situation, Revilla insisted that he would face the allegations “straightforwardly”, while some of his supporters who believe in his innocence expressed support. The arraignment and pre-trial of the case was set for the next few days, which is expected to be an important stage in the course of this matter that continues to be closely watched by the public.
