Ford is responding to customer demand and will move to hybrid and extended range electric vehicles (EREV). After the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, Ford will release several new vehicles with a combination of electric and gasoline by 2030.
In addition, Ford plans to launch five new affordable vehicles, including a gas/hybrid commercial van, before the end of the decade. All of its large trucks and SUVs will have hybrid or multi-energy options for the towing, range, and capability customers want.
Ford will not completely abandon battery electric vehicles (BEV). Development of the Universal EV Platform, which can be used for small and affordable EVs, continues. The midsize pickup truck will be launched first using the new platform.
In addition, Ford has a new partnership with Renault to build EVs. They will use the Renault Ampere platform, but with a design and driving style unique to Ford.
