
P1.6 million worth of smuggled cigarettes were seized in Marantao, Lanao del Sur on Friday, November 14.
Police officers flagged down a Toyota Revo on Narciso Ramos Highway in Barangay Daana-Ingud for a routine check. When they found it loaded with Indonesian-made cigarettes, the driver was detained and the vehicle was impounded.
According to Brig. Gen. Jaysen De Guzman, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, the driver was heading to Marantao and nearby towns to distribute to retailers.
The imported cigarettes have now been seized and are being held by PRO-BAR until they are forwarded to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
The driver of the Toyota Revo is currently detained at the Marantao Municipal Police Station.
