Church, business, and civic leaders have warned that there are groups that are exploiting public anger over corruption for their own interests. They say some are trying to protect those truly responsible for the plunder.
The Roundtable for Inclusive Development, led by Cardinal Pablo David and former Senate President Franklin Drilon, is calling for systemic reforms and action against the looting of the country's funds. They criticized the use of public anger for political agendas.
They also support the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, which is investigating the flood control scandal. According to the coalition, the commission is helpful in determining who is responsible and should be held accountable in court.
They also asked former House Appropriations Chair Elizaldy Co to return to the country and submit a judicial affidavit. At the same time, they are encouraging the passage of a law against political dynasties and strengthening transparency in the budget and government projects.
Cardinal David emphasized the importance of “listening and unity” in nation-building. The coalition also praised the Armed Forces for showing support for the constitutional order.
