The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has warned the public about a possible cyberattack that will occur on November 5. According to the agency, there may be a traffic flood or Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) that will affect the speed of websites and mobile apps.
The DICT explained that this type of attack does not steal data, accounts, or money. Instead, it causes slowing down or temporarily downing some online platforms.
ICT Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda said that the DDoS attack is a global issue and that the Philippines is preparing with other countries to combat it. “We are ready,” Aguda said.
Under Oplan Cyberdome, the DICT is coordinating with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, National Telecommunications Commission, and law enforcement agencies for swift action and protection of online systems.
The DICT also urged the public to remain calm. If a site or app does not load, try again later, use only official apps, and follow verified updates from authorities. The DICT also reminds the public to avoid illegal online activities on Wednesday.
