The chaos at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Thursday night resulted in the injury of five security guards after a Cameroonian teenager attacked them with a chair and belt.
According to a report by the NAIA PNP-Aviation Security Group, Floriant Ndzeng Atangana, 18, was warned several times not to move around the holding area. However, he became aggressive and hit the guards while shouting obscene words.
The wounded guards were identified as Roderick Pagulayan, Leofel Niño Laurilla, Christopher Naparate, Nursiya Narawi, and Katrina Mae Riel. They were immediately treated by the medic team after security head Jio de Castro calmed the situation.
According to the police, the guards have not yet decided whether they will file charges against Atangana, who was declared an "inadmissible person" by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
Meanwhile, two Filipinos were intercepted by the BI at NAIA Terminal 3 after being identified as victims of human trafficking. The men, aged 25 and 37, were on their way to Cambodia and were carrying fake employment documents. According to the investigation, one of them forced them to continue after the recruiter threatened to punish his friend abroad.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said that syndicates continue to use emotional abuse to manipulate Filipinos. He added, “Traffickers have no heart. They exploit the fear and relationships of their victims.”
On the same day, the BI also arrested a Norwegian, Maryath Stig Ljunggren, who is facing child sexual abuse charges in Oslo. She has an Interpol Red Notice and is banned from entering the country.
