Intense fire and thick smoke engulfed a house in Barangay Nuevo, Iloco, Mawab, Davao de Oro on Thursday afternoon. Video shows residents helping to rescue a tricycle from the burning house.
A man, age 40, suffered severe burns to his body. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but did not survive due to third-degree burns.
Based on the investigation by the Mawab Municipal Fire Station, the deceased was also responsible for setting his house on fire. According to SFO2 Alvin Hubiera, they saw that the man turned on the LPG in the bedroom and poured gasoline on the living room and other parts of the house before setting it on fire.
The man allegedly tried to escape but was also hit by the fire. According to neighbors and his wife, before the fire broke out, they allegedly had a fight due to intense jealousy.
Authorities are still investigating the entire incident, but it is clear that jealousy towards his wife was the cause of the tragedy that led to his death.
