Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla believes that the flood control corruption cases can be concluded within a year if there are no delays or delays in the court. According to him, if the trial continues, it is possible to conclude it within a month.
Remulla said they are strengthening evidence to ensure that the cases filed against those involved are strong. They are targeting to charge contractor couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya and former congressman Zaldy Co. They could be charged with malversation, and if there is enough evidence, they could also be charged with plunder or tax evasion.
He added that the Discaya couple seems to be protecting Sen. Bong Go due to his alleged connection to the company CLTG Builders. According to Remulla, even if Discaya did not testify, there is still enough basis to file a case.
Meanwhile, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said they will begin reviewing Discaya construction firms' contracts dating back to the previous administration. He stressed that nothing should be delayed and all those found guilty must be held accountable.
Rep. Leila de Lima and Rep. Chel Diokno also expressed disappointment over the limited testimony of the Discayas. For Diokno, corruption cases should not be delayed because the people are looking for swift and fair justice.
