The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has discovered 421 ghost projects or non-existent projects out of more than 8,000 inspected. Most of these were supposed to be focused on flood control.
According to DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, the report has been submitted to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
“These are just initial findings because there are hundreds of thousands more that need to be reviewed and validated,” said Dizon. He added that they have already had discussions with the ICI on how to handle a larger investigation.
These ghost projects could be worth billion pesos in government funds that could have gone to projects that would help people, such as bridges and flood control systems.
The goal of a thorough investigation is to ensure that public money is not wasted and only goes to meaningful projects that will truly help communities.
