
Cebu was rocked by a strong earthquake on the night of September 30, 2025. The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.9 and struck the ocean near Bogo City at 9:59 p.m.
Due to the intensity of the tremors, many residents ran out of their homes and went to safer places. Power was lost in some parts of the province and many buildings and churches were damaged.
The death toll has risen to 30 people while several others were injured. As a result, classes in many areas in Cebu have been suspended for the safety of students.
According to Phivolcs, there have been 379 aftershocks recorded since 4 a.m., with strengths ranging from magnitude 1.4 to 4.8.
Aftershocks are still being felt in Bogo City and could last for several weeks or months, Phivolcs said. It also warned that aftershocks could be felt by people.
