PLDT Enterprise has partnered with SMS Global Technologies Inc. (SMSGT) to bring Starlink satellite internet to remote and underserved areas in the country.
Under the agreement, SMSGT will use PLDT Satellite Internet powered by Starlink to support government agencies in remote communities. The goal is to provide fast and stable internet to areas without traditional lines, especially for services that are essential to the people.
According to Blums Pineda, Senior Vice President of PLDT and Smart, the project helps the government reach out to Filipinos more effectively. Anthony Christian Angeles, President and CEO of SMSGT, added that they have been looking for a resilient solution for their projects in remote areas for a long time, and the Starlink service has met this need.
Only PLDT Enterprise is authorized in the country to sell Starlink services. This is part of the company's broader program to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in infrastructure, innovation, and reducing inequality.
This project is expected to help strengthen digital inclusion, and accelerate the provision of services to off-grid communities—a step towards nation-building using technology.
