Spanish rider Marc Marquez has the chance to clinch his seventh MotoGP world championship in Japan this weekend. He now has 512 points and only needs 3 more points than his brother Alex Marquez to clinch the title, five weeks before the end of the season.
After an injury nightmare in 2020 when he fractured his right arm, Marquez has returned this year in excellent form. He has accumulated the most points in a single season in MotoGP history, with 11 wins from 16 races and 14 sprint wins.
In the last race in San Marino, Marquez crashed while leading the sprint. But he recovered the next day with a Grand Prix win, his 99th race victory in MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3.
The fluctuating performance of Francesco Bagnaia and injuries of Jorge Martin have been a big help to get further away from the standings. Alex Marquez is the closest challenger, he only has ₱100,000,000 points over Bagnaia who is in third place.
