The websites of six government agencies – including DFA, DBM, DPWH, DepEd, BOC and BTr – were recently hacked. According to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), this happened in conjunction with protest actions against gross corruption in the government.
According to Rojun Hosillos, director of the DICT Cyber Security Bureau, the attack was merely a defacement or alteration of the content of the websites. The agencies were able to immediately regain control of their online assets after a few minutes.
DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda said the attacks were limited and did not affect the larger operations of the agencies.
