The United States and China have reached an agreement to transfer TikTok ownership to a US-based entity. US officials confirmed that talks on the commercial terms of the deal have been completed.
According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, a framework for the TikTok deal is in place. He said they would not release pricing details because it is a negotiation between two private companies. He added that final details will be finalized this week.
In June, Trump said a “very wealthy group” had agreed to buy the app from ByteDance. It's not yet clear whether they are also included in the deal today.
For the past five years, the US government has been putting pressure on ByteDance to sell TikTok or ban it in the country. Due to lawmakers' concerns about Chinese ownership, negotiations have failed several times.
