The two alleged gun-for-hire were killed after a shootout with police during a buy-bust operation along Maharlika Highway, Brgy. Sumilang, Calauag, Quezon on Thursday afternoon.
According to the police, the suspects are involved in shooting cases in Sariaya, Candelaria, Tiaong, and Lucena City. They are believed to be members of a gun-for-hire group.
An operation was conducted at around 3:10 p.m. at a gas station in Brgy. Sta. Maria, Calauag. When the suspects heard about the operation, they quickly fled towards the town of Tagkawayan.
The police set up a checkpoint along the suspects' path. When they approached, they immediately fired on the police, who returned fire. A hot pursuit and a continuous exchange of gunfire led to the deaths of the two suspects.
No one was injured on the side of the police and civilians who were around the encounter.
