Five people, including a police officer and the suspect, are dead after a shooting on Monday in Midtown Manhattan, according to US media.
A law enforcement official told CNN that four people, including an NYPD officer, were killed in the incident. In addition, the suspect also died from an estimated “self-inflicted injury.”
According to Mayor Eric Adams on X (formerly Twitter), an officer was “striked down” and he extended condolences to the victim's family. However, the NYPD has not confirmed whether any officers have died.
Police reported that the situation is under control and the gunman is dead near Park Avenue and East 51st Street. The suspect's identity has not been released.
According to witnesses, the shooting took place in an office belonging to the Blackstone investment company. Additionally, authorities used a drone and were armed with long guns while securing the area.
