Four people died in Manila after contracting leptospirosis due to severe flooding, according to the local government.
The victims were brought to Manila Hospital and Sta. Ana Hospital. Currently, 13 patients are confined in other hospitals in the city, while there is one possible case at Sampaloc Hospital.
Mayor Isko Moreno ordered the city health department to set up “leptospirosis fast lanes” in hospitals, health centers, and evacuation sites for faster treatment and check-ups for patients.
More than 62,200 capsules of doxycycline, an antibiotic to fight leptospirosis, have been distributed to more than 31,000 residents as protection against the disease.
