Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant is officially moving to the Houston Rockets after a big trade deal from the Phoenix Suns. The news was revealed at Fanatics Fest in New York.
In exchange, the Suns will receive Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, and five second-round picks. The trade is expected to be finalized by July 6, coinciding with the start of the new NBA league year.
Durant's previous targets included Houston, Miami, and San Antonio. In an interview at Fanatics Fest, he said Houston is a "very fitting" and he's ready to help the Rockets make a stronger title run.
The Rockets finished last season as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, and now they've been boosted even further by the arrival of Durant. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 62 games. He also has the longest active streak in the NBA with 25+ points, 50% field goal, and 40% from three-point range in three consecutive seasons.
Durant has one more year on his contract worth $54.7M USD and can renew for a two-year extension worth up to $122M USD. His presence is a big addition to the Rockets and is expected to change the course of the Western Conference.
