The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will deport nine foreigners who were recently caught at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport after being caught with P440 million in undeclared money on May 10.
Among those caught were seven Chinese, one Indonesian, and one Kazakhstan national. According to the BI, they have been subjected to deportation proceedings as "undesirable aliens."
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said that foreigners are prohibited by law from engaging in activities that could affect the security of the country. Some of them have arrest warrants, including Wu Song who has an Interpol red notice for fraud.
In addition, Wang Chaoxin, a 32-year-old Chinese, was also arrested in Cebu for posing as a Filipino citizen. Wang allegedly obtained a Philippine driver’s license, birth certificate, and even registered a business using a fake name.
Viado added that with the help of the AFP and NBI, they are able to act faster on reports of foreigners taking advantage of immigration laws. The suspects have also been blacklisted so that they cannot re-enter the country.
