The police recently arrested two members of the Salisi Gang who were shooting at drunk foreigners in Manila. According to Lt. Col. Alfonso Pilota Saligumba III, station commander of Police Station 9, said the suspects' modus operandi was to lay in wait in the red light districts of Ermita and Malate, as well as in Quezon City, to catch foreign nationals who are drunk.
When they see a foreigner drunk and unable to return home, they pretend to be helpful and offer help. They pretend to be acquaintances and offer help, but after taking the victim to their home, they steal.
Their latest victims were five Bangladeshis who lost their cellphones. In an operation by authorities on May 3, a man and a woman were arrested. The suspects refused to give a statement about their crime.
The foreign victims are determined to file cases against the suspects. Those caught will face complaints of theft, falsification of public documents, and other cases such as carnapping and violation of Land Transportation and Traffic Code. While the investigation is ongoing, police are continuing to search for other members of the Salisi Gang, who they say number around 10 people.
