A Chinese fugitive wanted for illegal online gambling was caught by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Makati. Li Wen Jie, 32, was arrested on April 28, at his house in Brgy. Bangkal, Makati City.
According to the BI, Li was operating a gambling house using an online app that allegedly earned more than USD 154,000 or about P8.5 million in commissions. As a result, authorities sought him for a illegal gambling case.
Li was arrested and taken to the BI’s detention facility in Taguig City, awaiting his deportation. He will not be allowed to return to the Philippines.
Furthermore, the BI said that Li had overstayed in the Philippines for almost two years, since May 6, 2023.
