President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. insisted that there was no politics during his visit to Naga City, despite speculations about a possible alliance with Mayor Leni Robredo. During his inspection of the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum, the President was seen wearing pink socks as a symbolic tribute to the mayor. According to him, the real purpose of going to the city is public service, not any political issues.
Along with local officials, the President reviewed the implementation of Oplan Kontra Baha, a massive government program for cleaning and dredging rivers and estuaries to reduce flooding. He personally inspected operations at Sagop Creek and other affected areas. He stressed that finding long-term solutions to flooding is more important, especially in a region that is often hit by strong storms and heavy rains.
During the said visit, P500 million in funds were also formally granted for the retrofitting and modernization of the coliseum. The improvement plans include upgrading the drainage system, strengthening the structure, repairing sanitation facilities, and installing a community kitchen that can feed thousands of residents during disasters. This aims to make the facility more prepared as a evacuation and relief center during calamities.
The President also clarified that his visit was long-planned and not connected to any issue regarding the 2028 elections. He said the national government is there to help based on the needs of local governments, not on political color. He said he may return to Naga to personally ensure the completion of projects, a testament to the continued focus on infrastructure and community safety.
