Palestine has called on the Philippines to take concrete diplomatic and economic action after Israel expanded its control over the West Bank. The embassy said the move was a violation of international law and was causing deeper tensions in the region.
The Palestinian side asserted that the decisions open up wider expansion of settlements and allow tighter control over areas inhabited by Palestinians. It also cited an increase in violence and the risk to the civilian population, prompting a request for international protection.
The Philippine government was urged to consider significant sanctions, including possible limitations on trade relations, in response to measures that are allegedly contrary to the Fourth Geneva Convention and international resolutions. The call is said to aim for accountability and restoration of peace.
Despite this, the Philippines' position remains balanced, with historical ties with Israel and at the same time recognition of the State of Palestine. The country continues to promote the two-state solution, which aims to have free and secure Israel and Palestine with clear borders.
As diplomatic talks continue, analysts emphasize that the Philippines' next steps will be measured by its stand on human rights and international law. The international community expects a cautious but meaningful response amid the escalating situation.
