British hi-fi brand iFi has launched its latest flagship, the iDSD PHANTOM, which it calls a “world first for home audio.” It combines a reference-class DAC, ultra-high-resolution network streamer, and high-powered headphone amplifier in a single elegant chassis.
Based on the Pro iDSD, the new PHANTOM is made of mostly metal, weighs in at around 3.6 kg, and features upgrades to all key aspects of the previous model. These include a new streaming engine, upgraded digital conversion, higher output power, and wider user control, providing a complete refresh of the entire system.
Center of PHANTOM is iFi's latest ultra-resolution streaming platform, with support for Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, and There. Capable of playing up to 768kHz PCM and DSD512 natively, delivering unparalleled clarity and detail to every piece of music.
One of the most highlighted features of the PHANTOM is DSD Remastering up to DSD2048, using iFi's proprietary Chrysopoeia FPGA engine. It also offers three selectable listening modes – solid-state, tube, and Tube+ – for headphones and different music genres, which you can switch in real-time with a simple touch.
The PHANTOM delivers up to 7,747mW peak output through pure Class A amplification, sufficient for high impedance and planar magnetic headphones. It includes K2HD Technology, XBass Pro, and XSpace Pro, which enhance bass and spatial audio without affecting the core signal. It is now available for pre-order at iFi and selected dealers for a price of $4,499 USD.
