More than 100 families were affected after a fire engulfed a residential area in Juliana St., Brgy. Potrero, Malabon City early on January 4, 2026.
The fire started just after 12 a.m. on the third floor of a rental house. According to residents, a broken extension wire that caught on hanging clothes is the suspected cause of the fire.
The incident reached a second alarm and burned down more than 20 houses. According to BFP Malabon, responding was difficult due to the narrow alleys and houses made of light materials, which caused the fire to spread quickly.
The fire was declared under control just before 2 a.m.. Fortunately, no one was killed or injured in the incident, according to authorities.
Victims were temporarily evacuated to Potrero Elementary School, where classrooms are being used as evacuation centers. The fire victims called for assistance and temporary shelter, while investigations into the cause and extent of the damage are ongoing.
