Emmy-winning director Johan Renck, known for the HBO mini-series Chernobyl, has been officially selected to direct Netflix's Assassin’s Creed live-action series. This shows that the series is targeting a more darker, serious, and prestige-drama approach compared to typical game adaptations.
The project is the result of a collaboration between Netflix and Ubisoft, with the aim of raising the bar on live-action storytelling for one of the biggest global gaming franchises. Rather than just action, the series is expected to focus more on the historical depth, tension, and emotional weight of the Assassin and Templar stories.
The cast is led by Toby Wallace and Lola Petticrew, along with veteran actors from well-known drama series. While story details are still under wraps, it's clear that Renck's direction will bring a more cinematic, more mature, and more lore-true version of Assassin's Creed to fans and new viewers.
