The death of former DPWH undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral is being investigated by the DILG. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said “all signs point to suicide” based on the autopsy and crime scene. There was no sign of a struggle or foul play.
Cabral was found in a ravine on Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet, on Dec. 18. According to the investigation, he reached the accident site at 10 a.m., returned to the hotel in Baguio, and then drove back to the same spot at 2 p.m. When the driver returned, Cabral was gone and the body was found 20–30 meters below.
Autopsy showed blunt force trauma to the head, face, ribs, hands and ankles. No gunshot wounds, ligature marks, or stab wounds. Investigators said the accident was unlikely to be a head-first fall. NBI dashcam footage and hotel search corroborate initial findings. Investigation continues for complete results.
