
A six-year-old girl was rescued after being held hostage by an unknown man inside Ground Zero in Marawi City, at 7:50 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, the man suddenly entered the child's house, took out a knife and pointed it at the victim. The child was crying as people around tried to talk to and calm the man.
PCol. Ceazar Cabuhat, Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office Director, said a police officer was forced to shoot the suspect after seeing blood on the child and the man was no longer talking. The suspect was hit and the child was released.
The victim, who sustained injuries on his cheek and arm, was immediately rushed to the hospital. The man was pronounced dead on the spot while the Marawi City PNP continues its investigation.
Police are appealing to anyone with missing relatives who may be in the area to contact their office. According to PCol. Cabuhat, the suspect is unknown and not from the area.
