
Filipino boxers Aira Villegas and Eumir Marcial won their semifinals at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, advancing to the gold medal matches. The bout took place at the Chulalongkorn University Sports Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
Villegas, a bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, defeated Mya Moe Thu of Myanmar in the women's flyweight (50kg) in a shutout. In the final on Friday, she will face Chuthamat Raksat of Thailand.
Meanwhile, Marcial, bronze medalist in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, knocked out Nguyen Manh Cuong of Vietnam in the men's light-heavyweight (80kg). In the final, he will face Maikhel Roberrd Muskita of Indonesia, the first boxer to defeat the Thai in the 2025 SEA Games.
Another Filipino, Weljon Mindoro, lost in the semis of the men's middleweight (75kg) to Bui Phuoc Tung of Vietnam. He will take bronze along with Ofelia Magno, Riza Pasuit, Hergie Bacyadan, Nesthy Petecio, and Mark Ashley Fajardo, giving the Philippines a total of six bronze medals.
Villegas and Marcial's victory adds to the country's medal haul in this year's SEA Games.
