A woman died after she was shot in the back by a 22-year-old man while walking in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo, early on December 3. CCTV footage captured the attack on the victim, Camille Espinar Gonzales, 22.
According to the investigation, a shot from a pen gun killed Camille. The suspect said he was offered drugs, and when he refused, the victim allegedly cursed at him. He added that he had been drinking because it was his sister's birthday.
The PNP recovered the pen gun used, an improvised and illegal firearm. According to the police, the suspect bought it for P250. No drugs were found at the crime scene and investigations are ongoing to determine whether it is drug-related.
The victim's mother, Clarita Espinar, was deeply saddened, saying that her daughter had no fight and was not a drug dealer. She asked for justice for her daughter, especially since she has a young child left behind.
The suspect is in custody and will face a murder case, while the family is taking care of Camille's hill.
