workers in Eastern Visayas will receive a new wage increase, according to the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC).
The NWPC said the new minimum wage in the region will be raised from P422 to P452 starting December 8. The P422 is for agriculture, cottage and handicraft, and service or retail establishments with 10 workers or less. Meanwhile, P452 is for non-agriculture and service or retail establishments with 11 workers and above.
The new adjustment is P17 increase per day from the previous P405 and P435. By June 1, 2026, there will be another P18 increase, so the daily wage will be P440 and P470 depending on the sector.
This also includes domestic workers, who will get a P400 increase, so their monthly salary will be P6,400 from P6,000.
House Minority Leader and 4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino Libanan welcomed this, saying that the wage increase is a great help for workers who are suffering due to rising prices. He said it gives value to the workers' right to a fair wage.
