2 Filipinas Detained in Malaysia for Trafficking Have Returned

The two Filipinas who are victims of human trafficking have safely returned to the Philippines after being arrested and detained in Malaysia for four months. They recently arrived at NAIA.

The Bureau of Immigration said the two women left on June 30 using the so-called backdoor exit, or illegal route from Zamboanga to Tawi-Tawi. As a result, they did not go through the proper process.

Upon arriving in Malaysia, they were allegedly taken to a hotel where they were arrested for violating immigration laws. According to them, they were recruited to work in Cambodia but ended up in trouble.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that leaving without proper documentation carries great risks. He said that illegal departures often lead to arrest, exploitation, or deportation back to the Philippines.

This incident is a reminder to everyone that working abroad is safer and more correct if done through legal process and the right agency.
