The eight officials of DPWH Region 4-B who were charged for the Mindoro flood control scam are already in jail after surrendering and being arrested this weekend. The Sandiganbayan ordered them to be brought to the BJMP facilities in Quezon City while awaiting their arraignment on November 27 and December 2.
Seven officials voluntarily surrendered to the PNP-CIDG, while one was arrested by the NBI. At the same time, President Marcos promised that the prosecution of those involved in the multibillion-peso flood control corruption would be continuous. He said, “We will not stop.”
DPWH officials were presented in court including Gerald Pacanan, Gene Ryan Altea, Ruben D.S. Santos Jr., and other division leaders. Only Juliet Calvo was allowed to post bail of ₱90,000, while the others remain incarcerated due to the non-bailable case of malversation through falsification.
According to the DILG, the six men were taken to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas, while Calvo was taken to the Camp Karingal Female Dormitory. Eight other accused have not yet been arrested, including former congressman Zaldy Co, who is now the target of an Interpol blue notice because he is believed to be abroad.
The government has warned that it will hunt down all those who help the accused hide. According to Secretary Remulla, "If you are hiding, we will find you." The government has also called for the remaining accused to surrender to face the charges.
