The Mazda2 is making a comeback for 2026, proof that this sub-compact is still very much alive. Instead of retiring it, it was given new features in Japan such as 60/40 split-folding rear seats, rear privacy glass, 360-degree camera, and parking sensors. It also now has auto-dimming rearview mirror for safer driving.
The vehicle's tech features have also been improved as it now gets the 8.8-inch Mazda Connect system, which is used in newer models such as the Mazda3, CX-60, and MX-5. As a result, the Mazda2's infotainment is now more modern and user-friendly.
The most exciting is the release of the Mazda2 15MB (Motorsports-Based). This variant has a more powerful 1.5L Skyactiv-G engine that delivers 116 horsepower and 149 Nm torque. This is higher compared to the regular Mazda2. Along with the power bump is a 6-speed manual transmission with different gear ratios for sportier performance.
To be lighter and faster, Mazda has also reduced the weight of the 15MB by 50 kilograms. Some comfort features and even ADAS have been removed, so that it is more focused on the motorsports setup.
With all these updates, it's clear that the Mazda2 will continue to compete until 2026. However, there is a possibility of a future replacement after the Vision-X Compact Concept was shown at the Japan Mobility Show.
