Marcos Jr. stated that while corruption in government cannot be completely eliminated, it can be reduced if the system is well-organized. “There will always be crooks, but if it is difficult for them to steal, fewer will do it,” the President said.
Before he left for South Korea for the APEC Summit, Marcos Jr. ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to reduce the price of construction materials by up to 50%. This could result in savings of ₱30 billion to ₱45 billion.
He added that the problem of corruption will not be solved immediately, but the government is continuing to take steps. The President also stated that he is ready to veto or block the entire 2026 budget if it is proven to be full of funds for the personal projects of some lawmakers.
The House has passed its version of the General Appropriations Bill, while the Senate is finalizing its own. The two chambers agreed to hold budget deliberations in public to avoid hidden insertions or additional funds that were not discussed in plenary.
