Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla has ordered 99 officials of the Office of the Ombudsman to submit their courtesy resignations within seven days. According to the order signed on October 22, this applies to employees and officials assigned from May 29 to July 27, 2025.
The officials include two Assistant Ombudsman, four directors, three Graft Investigation Officers, 60 Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officers, and 30 Assistant Special Prosecutors. Their salaries range from ₱111,727 to ₱180,492 per month.
Remulla said he is also encouraging employees with salary grade 24 and below or with a monthly salary of ₱85,074 to also file a courtesy resignation. He added that they should still report to work while a decision on their resignation has not been made.
According to Remulla, he discovered 204 “midnight appointees” in the agency. He believes it is not right to fill the positions that were left vacant after the retirement of former Ombudsman Samuel Martires.
The top officials on the list are Assistant Ombudsman Nellie Roxas and Maria Olivia Roxas. Remulla has also contacted the Civil Service Commission for assistance in investigating and reviewing the appointments.
