The provincial government of Albay, with the help of 3rd District Rep. Adrian Salceda, has offered a P25,000 reward to anyone who can provide credible information that will lead to the killers of broadcaster Noel Bellen Samar.
Samar, a local radio commentator, was shot dead by an unknown suspect along Maharlika Highway, Barangay Morera, Guinobatan on Monday. According to the PNP, a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) “Samar” has been formed to solve the case.
Police have identified the motorcycle that the suspect may have used and will apply for a search warrant based on CCTV footage. Initial findings of the investigation indicate that Samar's murder may have been related to his work as a journalist.
The incident has angered local student journalists and media organizations. In a joint statement, they said Samar's killing is a direct attack on press freedom and called for stronger protection for journalists.
Authorities assured that they will follow up on all leads to ensure justice for Samar and his family.
