Two-time Paris Olympics gold medalist Carlos Yulo made another splash at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. On the first day of competition, he advanced to the finals of the floor exercise and vault.
He scored 14.566 points in the floor exercise, finishing second to Jake Jarman of Great Britain with 14.700 points or approximately ₱840,000 in monetary terms. On the vault, he recorded a 14.75 average score, the highest of all, equivalent to almost ₱855,000 in pesos.
According to Yulo, he is grateful to God and happy to be back in competition despite a lingering wrist injury. Although he did not compete in the all-around, he is still proud of the result and continues to target the highest medal.
The Gymnastics Association said Yulo's entry into the finals was a major achievement for the Philippines. She was the only Filipino gymnast to advance to the final round after her fellow gymnasts failed to advance in their respective events.
The men's competition will continue until October 22 for the all-around finals, while the apparatus finals will be held on October 24 and 25. The country fully supports Yulo's fight to bring honor to the Philippines once again.
