
Typhoon Ramil (international name: Fengshan) brought heavy rain and winds to Luzon, forcing the evacuation of more than 22,000 people in Calabarzon and Bicol. According to the NDRRMC report on October 19, about 22,311 individuals were evacuated in preparation for the storm's impact.
More than ₱22,000,000 worth of passengers and cargo were affected after sea voyages were stranded. Up to 3,242 passengers, 1,050 rolling cargoes, 6 ships and 7 boats were unable to travel. According to the Coast Guard report, the number is even higher: 6,560 passengers, 41 ships, 2 boats, and 1,911 rolling cargoes were stranded at various ports.
Despite widespread evacuations and travel delays, no damage to buildings or farms was reported. Authorities are still monitoring the storm's impact.
According to PAGASA, as of 8 a.m. Sunday, the center of the typhoon was located off the coast of Mauban, Quezon. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It was moving west-northwest at a speed of 20 kph, prompting the placing of Signal Nos. 1 and 2 over several provinces in Luzon.
Local governments continue to implement preemptive evacuations to ensure the safety of residents as Typhoon Ramil moves through the country.
