Thousands of people in the US gathered for a "No Kings" protest against President Donald Trump. It took place in all 50 states from New York to Los Angeles, as the government shutdown continued into its third week.
Many carried American flags, some upside down as a symbol of distress. They shouted, “Trump has got to go!” There were placards demanding protect democracy and stop the crackdown on immigrants. In Los Angeles, a large Trump diaper balloon was floated.
Trump released an AI video of himself wearing a royal crown. But he said in an interview, “I’m not a king.” Meanwhile, his allies called the protest a “Hate America rally”, which protesters simply laughed off.
According to Bernie Sanders, democracy is at risk when a few oligarchs hold power. Another young participant, Isaac Harder (16 years old), said he fears for the future because of the arrests of political opponents and militarization of cities.
The message of the protesters: "America is a country of equality, of law, and of democracy. We will not be silent."
