A 31-year-old lawyer was arrested in Quezon City after failing to attend the hearings of her estafa case in Santiago City, Isabela. She was caught at a restaurant on Timog Avenue past 7 p.m., October 8.
According to the police, he was first arrested on November 22, 2024 and released on bail, but he did not attend the hearings, so a warrant of arrest was issued against him again.
One of the victims was a couple who gave a ₱140,000 investment in exchange for the promise of ₱5,600 weekly income. The couple were planning to add another ₱70,000 when the suspect agreed to meet, leading to his arrest by authorities.
Four more people filed complaints after the arrest, including a victim who paid nearly ₱100,000 for the suspect's services but no case was processed. Because he is a lawyer, they were more easily persuaded by the legal language he uses.
Up to 27 people from Cagayan Valley were allegedly victimized by the lawyer. She is now in police custody while other victims are encouraged to file complaints and be vigilant, especially when it comes to investment scams.
