
The Philippines has been selected to host the FIVB Women’s World Championship 2029, a historic first for the country. The announcement was made before the gold medal match between Italy and Bulgaria.
According to FIVB President Fabio Azevedo, hosting is a great opportunity to showcase volleyball excellence and the positive impact of sports on society. Volleyball legend Leila Barros added, “I love you,” while expressing support for the Filipinos.
Ramon Suzara, FIVB Executive Vice President, emphasized that the experience from the FIVB Men’s World Championship 2025 will be key to making the upcoming event in 2029 even better. He also said that it will help sports tourism and pave the way for the Philippines to become the home of world-class volleyball.
Patrick Gregorio, Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission, thanked the FIVB for what he called a “great gift” for volleyball-loving Filipinos. He said this partnership will provide opportunities for athletes and help the country's economy.
At the end of the Men’s World Championship 2025, Italy won the title again after defeating Bulgaria in four sets (25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 25-10). This victory will serve as inspiration for a bigger event in the Women’s World Championship 2029 here in the Philippines.
