September 21 is not only the anniversary of martial law but also a day for massive rallies against corruption. Two rallies will be held — at the Luneta and the EDSA People Power Monument — to protest the alleged P1.9 trillion anomaly in flood control projects.
In the morning, the rally called “Baha sa Luneta: Aksyon Laban sa Korapsyon” will begin. It is led by students and activists. They are calling to “flood Luneta” or flood the area to show the people’s anger against politicians and contractors who are allegedly prioritizing money over the people.
In the afternoon, the “Trillion Peso March” will continue at the EDSA People Power Monument. It is led by priests, pastors, and civic groups who aim to revive the spirit of EDSA People Power. They encourage participants to wear white clothes as a symbol of unity and hope.
Corruption in flood control projects is at the center of the protests. Over the past 15 years, more than half of the P1.9 trillion in funds has reportedly been lost to ghost projects and substandard work. As major roads continue to be submerged in floodwaters, ordinary Filipinos remain the victims.
Expect heavy traffic around Luneta in the morning and along EDSA in the afternoon. The message of the two rallies: unite against corruption and do not allow abuse and plunder to happen again in the country.
